Court rejects N5 million bail for Nollywood actress due to misuse of new Naira notes.

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele was given a N5 million bail by a Magistrate court in Lagos for violating the social distancing order that was put in place by the government of Nigeria to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. The order was put in place to prevent the novel coronavirus from becoming more widespread. On Saturday, the actress was taken into custody after a number of people were found during a house party that she had hosted in her residence in Lagos.

Akindele was given an additional order from the court that required her to pay a fine of N100,000 for violating the social distancing order. The judge also ordered that Akindele be placed on a six-month bail to be of good behavior before she could be released from custody.

Akindele was also given a warning by the magistrate that a one-year jail sentence will be imposed on her for any additional violations of the social separation order. The actress was also given the instruction to contribute N200,000 to the relief fund set up by the Lagos State Government for COVID-19. The situation involving Akindele serves as a timely reminder that all residents are required to comply with the social distancing order that the government has implemented in an effort to control the spread of the virus.
